Prominent are thrilled to be working alongside Hey Girls, providing a diverse range of PR services to help the fight in ending period poverty in the UK.
Hey Girls is a multi-award-winning social enterprise that uses a “buy one, donate one” model to gift free period products to community organisations across the UK for every purchase.
Prominent first began working with Hey Girls in early 2022 through B2B support, although the working relationship quickly developed as the Prominent team took on more work with the Scotland-based social enterprise.
We now provide copywriting, media relations and social media services to the team, working hand-in-hand with the Hey Girls team to raise awareness of the extent of period poverty in the country.
Hey Girls has also seen Prominent go international gaining extensive media coverage around the world, while providing services to Hey Girls’ Australian operations when needed.
The Prominent team boasts an extensive array of press contacts throughout the UK, which have helped us spread the word of Hey Girls’ mission to an even greater audience.
We have not only secured local media coverage in the areas surrounding Hey Girls’ offices, but have gained both international and national coverage about the incredible work the not-for-profit does.
Extensive coverage was received following the passing of the Period Products (Free Prevision) (Scotland) Act 2021, which saw Scotland become the first country in the world to make free access to period products a legal right.
Hey Girls, and its sister social enterprise MyPeriod, worked closely with the Scottish government to make the momentous law reality and thus featured heavily in press coverage from America to Taiwan and everywhere in-between.
Thanks to Prominent, Hey Girls featured in the media more than 300 times in the same week alone.
Trade press coverage obtained includes a feature on Hey Girls’ partnership with construction heavyweights the Wates Group in the Design and Build UK magazine, a feature on Hey Girls’ partnership with Heathrow Airport in Airports International and extensive regional media coverage as part of a national campaign with Women in Sport, Places Leisure and Places for People.
Although primarily based in Scotland, Prominent have helped raise awareness of Hey Girls’ East Anglian operations and have built a strong relationship with the press in Norfolk and Suffolk.
Hey Girls have an incredibly important message to send to the nation. That’s why we have provided media training to ensure their campaign is expressed effectively.
One of the Hey Girls founders joined us in-house for the day’s training, learning how to confidently talk to the media and get a message across in the most compelling way.
The Prominent team has also conducted a social media workshop for the Hey Girls team, helping their staff feel confident to share their work across the range of social media channels.
Prominent supplies Hey Girls with stellar copy for its website, publishing blogs and case studies on the vast array of partnerships the social enterprise has made with local, national and international businesses.
We work directly with Hey Girls’ partners to find the best line for a story, often developing blogs into press releases and features for the local and national press.
Prominent support Hey Girls across their social media channels, with a particular focus on boosting B2B reach through LinkedIn.
As well as directing users to our website content and media coverage, the Prominent team designs bespoke social media graphics for each of the Hey Girls platforms.
Hey Girls surpassed the milestone of donating more than 30 million products in March 2023, so we created a sub campaign named #Hey30Million which featured social media, media relations and copywriting.
The main objective of this campaign was to increase the number of corporate partners on board, which in turn would increase the number of donations made. We also aimed to increase followers on social media, particularly LinkedIn, secure national consumer and trade media coverage, and raise awareness and start conversations around period dignity in the workplace.
The #Hey30Million campaign had a combined reach of over 57,000 across LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and more than 1,600 engagements. We contacted Hey Girls’ business partners and encouraged them to take part in the campaign. Businesses who subsequently used the hashtag include Algeco, Morgan Sindall Construction, King’s College, local councils and politicians including MSPs Paul McLennan and Collette Stevenson.
We also generated 29 media clippings with a potential reach of 110million, including an exclusive interview with the Daily Mirror, putting the Hey Girls name and the reality of period poverty in front of a huge audience.
We secured trade press coverage across numerous industries and national radio coverage on Kiss FM and Bauer’s network of regional stations. We also secured media coverage for later in the year as a result of the campaign.
"Helen, Keira and the whole team have created a strong plan to reach our strategic goals and executed it efficiently and professionally throughout.
A good understanding of the sectors we want to work with has led to important business connections and a transparent way of planning and reporting of progress has made it easy for them to demonstrate their success. The team can speak confidently in our brand tone of voice across a variety of platforms and have been accommodating to our needs as a company.
On top of this, we have been able to get to know the whole team which has allowed us to build a strong business relationship."
