There is a popular belief that it’s almost impossible to find work in your field as a foreigner abroad. But for Prominent’s newest recruit Lena, she is fitting right in. Here, she looks back at her first week in the team.
As a Ukrainian refugee I had that kind of fear coming to the UK.
At home I had been working as a PR and marketing manager for almost 15 years. I developed advertising strategies for different businesses, managing cross-brand marketing initiatives and communication campaigns.
Doing that work in a different language was something that made me nervous. But I decided to take a risk with the hope of finding my dream job here in the UK.
A fellow Ukrainian here in Felixstowe told me about Prominent and it was exciting to find a job that seemed the perfect fit for me.
I came in to meet Helen, Grace and Sophie, expecting just to have a chat. I was so happy to then receive an offer to join the team.
It feels amazing to be here. And my first week has been so exciting.
I have already been introduced to a wide range of clients and had the chance to explore several case studies.
I’ve been involved in lots of client meetings and it has been great to share my ideas with the team.
My work so far has included working with our newest client to arrange an influencer event. I am also working on a project supporting fellow refugees here in the East of England.
This first week has been very insightful and it is so interesting to learn more about the PR landscape in the UK.
I am very happy to be in a team that encourages me to ask questions and makes me feel so welcome.
I am really excited to see what the future holds.
