How to successfully publicise your award win

Adam B&W

It’s a great feeling winning an industry award – receiving recognition for all your and your team’s hard work.

We’ve won a few ourselves over the years and it’s a feels brilliant going up to collect your gong.

But it’s much more than just a pat on the back and a nice trophy to grace your office wall, it can bring enormous benefits to your business and its profile.

Here, Adam Howlett, Prominent’s Media Relations Lead, looks into the best ways to make the most out of your award win.

Spreading the good news

So, you’ve entered or been nominated for an award, held your nerve through the shortlisting stage and jumped for joy when your name was announced as the winner.  Now what?

Winning an industry award is not only a great boost for your team, it’s an opportunity to spread the word of the amazing work you do, develop new contacts and raise the public profile of your business.

Social media

There are many ways to publicise your win.

First, there’s social media.  Your social media channels give you the opportunity to share the news with your followers, along with photos taken at the event.

Make sure to tag in other organisations involved in the awards – the awards body, the sponsors – and congratulate other companies who have taken home an award themselves.

Visually interesting posts tend to do better on social media, so consider doing a gallery of photos from the event or a video of the amazing night you had.

Make sure to take lots of photos and video at the awards so you have plenty of material for publicity.

Press release, website and newsletters

Writing a blog or news piece for your website is a great way to spread the news of an award win and direct people towards your website.

If you have a newsletter, your award win makes an amazing lead story and gives you a chance to again share any video or photos taken at the event.

If you don’t have a newsletter, consider sending out an email to all your clients letting them know the good news – just remember to add a call to action to direct them to areas of your website. You can also write a blog post for your website, too.

A well-written press release will also be of interest to the local press, particularly their business news reporters.  Just make sure you have a winning photo to send off with your award-winning news release.

Email signatures and logos

Most awards are eager for you to share your win and will supply a logo to add to your email signature and website.

Adding these to your team’s email signature and website lets people know you are a business to be reckoned with, raising your profile and reputation for providing a top-quality service.
