Receiving an award isn’t just a great feeling, it can be hugely beneficial for your business. Whether you are a small or large organisation, winning the right award can help you stand out from competitors.

Here, Account Manager Lauren Alcock looks at how to find the right award for your business – and why you should strive to get your hands on it.

Why are awards important?

While it may not seem like an obvious part of your PR and marketing campaign, awards are a great way to boost awareness of your business. And not only that, but they also help to increase your company’s credibility.

Let’s face it, seeing ‘award-winning’ or ‘multi-award-winning’ certainly piques interest. Whether you are choosing where to go for dinner, or perhaps looking for a PR agency to support your business like us, it is going to turn heads!

Many awards also focus on individuals. So, if you have someone to shout about, do it! Celebrating your employees highlights the talent in your organisation and it can help you attract potential candidates.

More than that, they are also a great way to improve staff morale and help staff feel valued. That boosted team spirit can make a real difference to your business.

Award wins are also great things to highlight and provide a good opportunity to feature in local or trade press titles. In fact, we have secured lots of coverage on our clients’ awards, the majority of which we wrote the entries for.

Finding the right award

Finding the right award for your business takes a lot of research. And luckily, there are plenty to choose from.

It may sound obvious, but Google will be your best friend. Spending time searching through the vast array of awards out there is essential.

Whether they are trade-specific or local, it is important they are well-respected in your industry and aligned with your goals.

There’s no denying that some award ceremonies are more about making a quick buck for organisers – but the majority will act as a genuine seal of approval of your business.

Which brings me on to the next matter, why are you entering the award? Is it to raise the profile of your company? Are you trying to attract new employees? Or are you trying to win more work?

The end-goal will help you pick the award and category you’d like to enter. For example, if you want to attract new employees, award categories focusing on an individual or overall staff wellbeing could be a good choice.

Many companies avoid awards because the work they do is ‘just part of the job’, but they could be missing out. It is important to know how to celebrate the work of your organisation, as award judges will be looking for that – and we can help.
