Just like all other social networks, LinkedIn relies on an algorithm for sending content to us. And like any other algorithm it relies on a variety of factors to make those decisions.
Here, our Account Executive Olena Vasylevska shares her top tips on how to get your personal profile seen by the right people.
Firstly, you should fill your profile with all the experience and skills you have.
Upload a professional headshot and include relevant keywords in your profile description that identify you and your experience.
Don’t miss out on a great opportunity to demonstrate your value in the marketplace by asking for recommendations from your previous colleagues or workplace.
You can also customise your URL to make your profile look more attractive.
Now your profile is optimised, you are ready to start making posts and growing your connections.
The amount of time someone spends looking at content is very important. A cursory glance tells the LinkedIn algorithm if your post is important or not.
As people do business with people, let them get to know you better!
Share your knowledge and advice, be authentic and useful to your audience. Try to make your expert posts easy to read, incorporate strong keywords and don't forget to encourage responses with a question inserted in your post.
Limit the length of your post to about 1500 characters (around 15 lines, or eight at the minimum). We also recommend adding a picture to make it more eye-catching.
If you want to tag somebody, make sure to tag people who will engage with your post – as tagging too many people will see your post penalised. It is always better to tag people or brands in the comments.
Make sure to post regularly, as taking a break will see the reach of your posts reduce by as much as 35%. Posting at least once per week will keep your followers engaged.
It is important that your posts catch users’ attention early to get more engagement. So remember to stay active and engage for between 60 to 90 minutes after posting.
Receiving likes, shares and comments will tell LinkedIn’s algorithm that your content is interesting and relevant and push it to more people.
One way to enhance this it to notify your company whenever an employee creates content. By building processes that encourage employees to get active on social media, you can create a great environment for company-wide content sharing.
Using external links can affect your position on the algorithm, as LinkedIn focuses on keeping ideas and discussions on the platform. But you can include a link in your comments’ section if you think it is useful or relevant to your followers.
If you are going to comment on your own post, make sure not to for the first 10 minutes, otherwise the algorithm will punish you for commenting first.
Regarding hashtags, don’t use too many. LinkedIn checks if your content could be considered spam, so you’ll also want to avoid hashtags such as #like and #follow.
Use around three to five hashtags. Mix up both highly-searched hashtags and more niche ones. Implementing the use of branded hashtags may also have high potential here.
Videos are no longer prioritised over text-only or photo-based posts. Short, succinct video clips work best, so try to make them no longer than three minutes long. And don’t forget to use subtitles to make them accessible and attractive to viewers.
