I can’t believe it’s been one whole year since I started my role as office manager at Prominent.
When I first saw the advert for the position, I was immediately excited about the potential opportunity. On my way to the interview, I already knew I wanted the job. However, this was cemented further as soon as I was greeted by the team. Everyone was so friendly and there was a vibrant energy that could not be ignored. I remember being asked if I would mind waiting a few minutes as Ellen had a last-minute TV appearance. The team were excitedly huddled round a PC watching - pre COVID-19 times when we could be within 2m of each other, and I knew at that moment, this is where I wanted to be. Fast forward a few weeks, I was offered the role and a month later I started. What a year it has been…
The role of office manager is pretty varied at the best of times. Throw COVID-19 into the mix and a three-month lockdown with no physical office to manage and it takes it to a new extreme. However, despite the challenges everyone has inevitably faced in 2020, I’ve tried to make the best of it. From managing the team calendar and organising numerous zoom meetings (had anyone actually used zoom pre 2020?), to ordering PPE and writing our COVID-19 policies and procedures, there hasn’t been a quiet moment. And one thing that has stayed the same throughout is our team culture. From group chats on Skype and WhatApp, virtual birthday and baby shower celebrations, and now the weekly anticipation of the GBBO sweepstake (my baker is still in at the moment) we’ve remained the close-knit team I was instantly welcomed in to.
With so much uncertainty in the world with COVID-19, one thing I’m certain of is that I’ll always be so pleased I made the move to Prominent.
